Jason sustained extensive, life-altering injuries to his hands and arms after suffering a severe electrocution that passed through both of his arms and across his chest for an unknown duration of time. The physical trauma is significant, and the road to recovery will be long and challenging.

Currently, Jason is living on a remote island that lacks the specialized neurological care he desperately needs. We recently received the devastating news that the only viable neurology facility in the state, located on Oʻahu, cannot accept his insurance. This means his only option for treatment and recovery is relocation to Colorado. He has spent months living in excruciating pain without answers, and as you can imagine, this injury is eating through his savings fast.

While he isn’t ready to discuss the full circumstances and trauma of what happened just yet, he urgently needs our support right now.

Jason is one of Colorado’s long-time advocates for health and Constitutional values. His decades of determination led to a landmark cannabis trial victory in 2009 and the co-authoring of pivotal hemp legislation in 2012 and 2013. 

Every dollar raised will directly fund Jason’s emergency relocation, ongoing healing, and medical rehabilitation, this is to meet his needs while insuance and other systems are processed:

• • Medical Relocation and Travel: A flight to Colorado ASAP to access the care he desperately needs, as all local facilities in Hawaiʻi are no longer an option.
  • Temporary Housing & Transportation: Rent for a safe place to stay near the hospitals in Colorado, and reliable transportation to frequent appointments.
  • Retroactive & Ongoing Caregiving: Covering the cost of the full-time in-home care Jason has required for safety and essential daily activities since the incident in May, and funding a continued caregiving team moving forward.
  • Daily Living: Nutritious food and basic living expenses while he is physically unable to work independently.
  • Accessibility and Work Support: Jason’s professional career depends on his hands for the agriculture work, requires consistent computer interaction, and fine muscle control. Dedicated funding will secure an assistant to perform computing tasks and enabling him to sustain his technical endeavors and professional commitments.
  • Medical Expenses: Out-of-pocket medical bills, treatments, deductibles, and necessary rehabilitation supplies.
  • Assistive and Rehabilitation Equipment: Robotic arm devices (spanning from shoulder to hand) to assist with movement and specialized physical therapy as he works to regain mobility and function.
  • Mobility & Assistance Service Dog: Funding to acquire and train a service dog to help Jason safely navigate daily physical tasks while his arms and hands functions are compromised.
